The new Intel D945GCLF mini-itx main board, from Intel, powered by the incredible Atom CPU, is now available.
This very low power CPU (TDP = 4W), with multiple thread support, is exceptionally efficient. Capable of powering Vista Home Media Center, for example, with ease (even the Aero Glass effects).
The Atom 230 CPU used on this board is a 1.6GHz model, with 512K of L2 cache, based on Intel’s latest 45nM process. The supporting chipset, the Intel 945GC + ICH7 provides desktop connectivity and performance. Intel high definition audio, 10/100 LAN, PCI, SATA2 (3GB/s) DDR2 533/667 are all there, to ensure connectivity, expandability and performance.
Build you new mini-itx project, or upgrade your mini-itx project today, and get a huge performance boost (typically 3-4x benchmark improvement, when compared to a VIA C7 1.5GHz / CN700 system, per benchmark software ie Sandra etc) .
Note the maximum height component is the fan cooled north bridge chip (45mm above the main board)

Nice motherboard For me it works well. If you read carefuly what they say, the CPU alone draws 4 W of power, so don't expert your sistem to draw less than 20W. A hard drive alone draws 10W, so 4W is for CPU, not for whole system including power drawn by motherboard+memory+hard drive+other devices you have connected

Low Power Fileserver Hooked up a DVD drive and a small IDE drive for boot device, pair of SATA 750GB drives in software RAID-1 under Windows Server 2003. Included drivers work for everything apart from the GFx. 10/100 onboard is a limitation so just invested in a gigabit PCI card

Good as a music server Works well as a SqueezeBox (music) server using XP Professional. Board Supports Squeezebox remote control for both wake on LAN, and the SqueezeCentre plugin for later turning the server off. My power meter shows my system uses 7 watts before waking. Power when on is around 40 watts.
